To promote health, recreation and wellness opportunities for the residents of the Municipality of Emerson-Franklin. As a Municipal department we will endeavor to deliver diverse and equitable programs and services to people of all ages and abilities.

*NEW for 2020 – Online Option for Food Handler Training*

Healthy Living will cover the cost for volunteers working in a not-for-profit setting who are preparing and serving food to the public, to take the Certified Food Handler Training Certificate Level 1 available online through ‘Contractors Associated with Manitoba Health’.

  • Volunteers must cover the cost of the course fee and once a volunteer has completed the training and received the Certificate, Healthy Living will reimburse the cost – please connect with Healthy Living Facilitator for the Volunteer Expense Claim form.

This will be the last year that Healthy Living will cover the cost of the Food Handler training.

 

Mindfulness Book Club

will resume on October 14, 21, 28 & November 4, 2020

Offering: Four-week mindfulness book club sessions for anyone that would like to join:  

Book: "the mindful day” - how to find focus, calm and joy from morning to evening by Laurie J. Cameron.  

What is the Mindfulness Book Club? 

Over a period of four weeks we will be discussing the content of the Mindful book and experiencing some mindfulness practices. 

Each week we will read a certain section of the book, have a discussion, incorporate a meditation and some mindful movements during the session.  

The mindfulness book club will help you learn how to intentionally cope with pain, illness and stress. You will gain a better understanding of stress and how to respond more effectively to daily challenges.  

Instructor: Bernice Parent, Certified Yoga and Mindfulness teacher.  

Dates: October 14 & 21, 28, & November 4, 2020  

Time: 1-3 pm   

Location: New Horizon Emerson Hall  

Cost: $20.00 for the mindful day Book 

**Registration is required as we are only taking 15 participants** 

We will be giving the participants the books ahead.

The Reh-Fit Centre is offering free online exercise programs for people at home. Programs are geared more so towards older adults, but I assume anyone could benefit. People will need to have internet connection to access. Please share with anyone you feel may benefit.
